Publix Super Markets Inc. has purchased 19.5 acres of property surrounding its Bayshore Gardens store at the corner of U.S. 41 and 60th Avenue West. The purchase totaled $42 million, according to Manatee County property records.

The purchase comprises four parcels, including property at 6148 14th St. W., 6152 14th St. W., 6010 14th St. W. and the strip mall where Publix is housed. Target, TJ Maxx and H&R Block are other tenants in the shopping center, which was built in 1992.

The other properties at 6148 14th St. W., 6152 14th St. W., 6010 14th St. W. house Amscot, a financial services company, Italian restaurant Mamma Onesti’s and a Duff’s Buffet restaurant, respectively.

Publix purchased the property from Bay Gard Ltd., a company of Kimco Realty, a New York-based real estate investment trust. Kimco Realty, according to its website, owns 550 shopping center properties across 36 states and Puerto Rico. The website boasts the REIT is “North America’s largest publicly traded owner and operator of open-air shopping centers.”

Publix spokesman Brian West didn’t have a comment Wednesday on the purchase. The Bayshore Gardens Publix is one of almost two dozen Publix locations in Sarasota County and Manatee County. Publix has recently opened stores in The Villages, West Miami, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee, with two more slated to open within the next month.
