Lake Flores recognized for design’s emphasis on walkability

Whiting Preston’s master-planned community Lake Flores has been recognized as 2016’s Outstanding Development by the Florida Planning and Zoning Association.

The proposed western Manatee County community was praised for public outreach efforts and a walkable design, according to a release about the award. The Lake Flores team conducted public outreach efforts to respond to critical comments from the Manatee County community on the Lake Flores website and Facebook.

“On behalf of the entire Lake Flores team, I’m honored to receive this award and especially pleased to be recognized for a second year,” Whiting Preston, whose family owns the land and who has headed efforts to develop the Lake Flores vision, said in the release. “Our team has been working very hard to move forward with our plans, and we appreciate the time and expertise of countless individuals who have contributed to our progress.”

The award was presented June 3 at a FPZA luncheon in Jacksonville. Lake Flores was recognized by the same organization in 2015 as the Outstanding Planning Project.
