Manatee, Sarasota apartment rents rise in May
Apartment rents continued to rise in May in Bradenton and Sarasota, mirroring national and statewide trends.
In Manatee County, the average rent for a one-bedroom apartment was $950 last month, according to Apartment List, an online marketplace for apartment rentals. Two-bedroom units averaged $1,520. Both numbers were up .8 percent from April and 6.2 percent from the same time in 2015.
Sarasota County rents were higher, hitting $1,250 for one-bedroom units and $2,380 for two-bedroom units. Those prices reflect almost no change from April and .9 percent from April 2015.
Rental rates in Bradenton and Sarasota were generally in line with county rates, although the average two-bedroom apartment rented at lower rates. In Bradenton, the average rental amount was $1,500, while in the city of Sarasota, it was $2,380.
The two-county area was a less-expensive place to rent a one-bedroom apartment than the rest of the state, in general. The average rent for Florida in May was $1,150. However, two-bedroom rentals were thriftier state wide, averaging $1,450. Those numbers are up 3 percent from last year.
Nationwide, one-bedroom rents averaged $1,180, while two-bedroom rents reached $1,130. That’s an increase of 2.7 percent from 2015. Average rents have risen every month for the past year nationwide, with the exception of January, according to Apartment List statistics.
