Q: What was the best business advice you ever received?
A: “Plan or be planned for” — one of the many pieces of advice given to me by my friend and business partner Jim Abrams.
Q: If you could choose another profession, what would it be?
A: My first job was as a machinist, and since then I have had the great privilege of being a doctor, a businessman and an entrepreneur. Throughout these roles, I have endeavored to help people “Love Your Life.”
Q: What is the biggest risk you’ve taken in your career?
A: Leaving the comfort of an academic position at the University of Pennsylvania to come to Florida to start a new business. We did so for our family — we wanted to raise our family in a closer, safer environment than we had in Philadelphia. I did it only with the brilliant support and love of my beautiful partner and bride Dr. Rhonda Deems, PhD. In July we’ll celebrate 30 years of marriage.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you start?
A: The Galapagos Islands, where Charles Darwin developed many of his theories of evolution. I have always been a fan, and it’s on my bucket list. It was he who wisely said, “It is not the strongest of a species who survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.” From there to the South Pole and from there... anywhere Rhonda and the boys want to go!
