MANATEE -- Anna Maria Oyster Bar has been recognized by America's Blood Centers as the 2015 Corporation of the Year for the restaurant family's commitment to hosting blood donation events.

Representatives from the restaurant accepted the honor at the 19th annual Awards of Excellence event, held on March 14 at the Hyatt Jacksonville Riverfront Hotel.

"We love the people of our community, so giving back has always been a big part of what we do here at Anna Maria Oyster Bar," said restaurant owner John Horne.

Nominated for the award by SunCoast Blood Bank, Anna Maria Oyster Bar has hosted two blood drives at its Landside, Cortez and Ellenton locations twice a year. Since 2012, Anna Maria Oyster Bar has collected several hundred units of blood.

The next drive hosted by the restaurants is scheduled for April 15 and is open to the public. All donors receive a T-shirt, a wellness checkup and coupon good for a free lunch or early bird special. Donors must be at least 16 years old. Donors under 18 must have parental permission, and a photo ID is required.

Sarasota Inn at Midtown sells for $6.5 million

SARASOTA -- Daus Investments, an Encino, Calif., company, has purchased the Inn at Midtown at 1425 S. Tamiami Trail for $6.5 million.

The 99-room hotel, formerly known as the Best Western Midtown, is located across from Midtown Plaza and Sarasota Memorial Hospital. The Inn at Midtown features a heated outdoor pool area, complimentary hot breakfast, laundry services, and parking for guests and motor coaches.

The seller was Midho LLP. In 2004, the last time the property sold, it went for price of $4.8 million, according to Sarasota County property records. The purchase is Daus Investments' first acquisition in downtown Sarasota.

Longboat Key chamber gets ready to Hob Nob

LONGBOAT KEY -- The Longboat Key Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Hob Nob -- Island Style on April 14. Local, county, state and federal elected officials have been invited. The Hob Nob is an opportunity to talk one on one with elected officials in a casual setting.

The event is scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Spike 'n Tees at the Resort at the Longboat Key Club, 361 Longboat Club Road.

Complimentary hors d'oeuvres will be served. Complimentary beer will be provided by Gold Coast Eagle and there will be a cash bar. The entry fee for the event is $15.
