J.C. Penney at DeSoto mall wins top award
PLANO, Texas -- The J.C. Penney store at DeSoto Square mall won a Founder's Award for meeting or exceeding all of its performance goals.
The Founder's Award is the company's highest distinction for excellence. Marvin R. Ellison, chief executive officer, and Joe McFarland, executive vice president of stores, presented managers with a commemorative plaques during a special ceremony in Texas. Vincent Joy, the general manager for the store at the Bradenton mall, represented the store at the ceremony.
Only 102 of approximately 1,000 stores, six out of 52 districts and three out of 13 supply chain facilities receive the award. One other Florida store, the Clermont Landing in Clermont in Lake County also took home an award. The Lakeland Logistics Facility and the Tampa district also received founder's awards.
Angela Massaro-Fain wins advertising silver award
SARASOTA -- Angela Massaro-Fain, president and founder of Grapevine Communications, was awarded the silver medal award from the American Advertising Federation.
Massaro-Fain is one of only five recipients of the silver award in more than 20 years, and the second woman to receive the mark of distinction.
The AAF is one of the oldest institutions to support and promote creative professionals and managers in the advertising industry. Established in 1959, the AAF's Silver Medal Award Program recognizes men and women who have made outstanding contributions to advertising and who have been active in furthering the industry's standards, creative excellence and responsibility in areas of social concern.
Each year AAF member clubs bestow this honor upon outstanding members of the local advertising community based on creative ability and the contributions the recipient made to their own company, to the advancement of advertising, to the community and to the AAF.
Geraldson Community Farm to host festival
BRADENTON -- Geraldson Community Farm is set to host several local vendors and musicians at its property, 1401 99th St. NW., as a part of the Green Thumb festival Sunday.
Tampa Bay-area music acts Redfeather, Saint Sylvia, Babyl and Physical Plant will play from 3 to 7 p.m. while guests roam vendor booths. Sereniteas & Soothers tea company, Britelites hair colors, and Kurtos Inc. Sarasota, which makes a variety of baked goods, will be on hand.
Pets are welcome and children are invited to see the farm's donkeys, chickens and rabbits. No alcohol will be available for purchase, but attendees age 21 and over can bring their own.
Admission is $10, but discounted tickets can be purchased through Geraldson Community Farm's Facebook page prior to the event.
