Bradenton Sports Authority on Cortez Road to close
BRADENTON -- As a part of a Sports Authority corporate decision to file for bankruptcy protection, Bradenton will lose one of its sporting goods stores. The specific closure date of the store at 201 Cortez Road W. is unknown.
Sports Authority filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Wednesday in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court District of Delaware. The company will sell 87 of its store properties according to A&G Realty Partners, including 25 stores in Texas, eight in Florida, five in Illinois and five in Virginia.
The Cortez Road store is Bradenton's only Sports Authority. Sarasota has three locations: 147 N. Cattlemen Road, 4092 Cattlemen Road and 8372 S. Tamiami Trail.
Other sporting goods stores in Bradenton include Champs Sports, Dick's Sporting Goods, Finish Line and Play it Again Sports, as well as other sports-specific shops such as Tennis Goal Pro Shop.
Representatives at Sports Authority were not immediately available for comment.
