Port Manatee hosts training session; CareerSource sets hiring events
Port hosts
100 officers
for training
PORT MANATEE -- Friday was a wild day at Port Manatee.
The port hosted more than 100 Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission law enforcement division officers - plus four canines - from a 12-county area at the state agency's annual meeting.
The meeting featured refresher training regarding endangered species and species of special concern. The commission is responsible for the protection and management of more than 575 species of wildlife and more than 700 native species of saltwater and freshwater fish. A press release issued by the port said the commission balances "these species' needs with those of nearly 19 million residents and millions of annual visitors with whom they share the state's land and water."
While Port Manatee is largely dedicated to industrial and commercial uses, it has made room over the years for species. Its waters feature sea grass beds and the port has built an island out of dredge material that is inhabited by a number of species of breeding bird populations.

Nonstop budget flight to Paris added from Florida
Budget international carrier, Norwegian Air Shuttle, is bringing the first nonstop flight to Paris from Fort Lauderdale. The airline announced it's adding one weekly flight from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to Charles De Gaulle Airport in Paris, starting July 29.
The move will help ease a need for nonstop flights to the popular European destination. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport currently operates Norwegian Air flights to London, Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm.
One-way flights to Paris start at $175, including taxes about 25 percent of the price from South Florida on major legacy carriers.
