Bradenton OKs annexation that could land new Home Depot
BRADENTON -- A new Home Depot store is being eyed for about 3 acres at 5700 State Road 64 near Morgan Johnson Road.
On Wednesday, city officials quickly moved past a first reading of the annexation request to schedule a public hearing for Feb. 24.
In December, the annexation request made by Greenberg Farrow Architecture on behalf of landowner MIMCO Properties LLC, was presented to the Joint Planning Commission, an entity consisting of representatives from Palmetto, Bradenton, Manatee County, the three Anna Maria Island cities and the Manatee County School Board.
The JPC is a nonbinding board that was formed to give all entities the opportunity to hear annexation requests to determine what, if any, issues may arise from the requests. Representatives did not give a presentation at Wednesday's meeting but did at December's JPC meeting, outlining a preliminary site plan that is consistent with Home Depot stores.
The land consists of four separate parcels, three of which are currently undeveloped and one is the Meridien Research office building. The
annexation request includes a future land use change.
Currently, the properties are zoned in Manatee County for planned commercial development, residential-6 and agriculture. The annexation request is to change zoning to the city's suburban commercial corridor and is consistent with surrounding properties to the east and west previously annexed by the city.
The applicant would have to pay the city to install a new lift station for sewer services and pay Manatee County for any required road improvement on Morgan Johnson Road.
