Starbucks
adds store in
E. Manatee
MANATEE -- Starbucks is adding another location near Lockwood Ridge Road and State Road 70 at 4220 53rd Ave. E.
On Dec. 18, Benderson Development Co. filed plans with Manatee County to build out nearly 2,000 square feet for a new Starbucks in a multi-tenant building.
Starbucks has one nearby location at 7386 52nd Place E. near Interstate 75, and multiple others in the Bradenton-Sarasota area. The company has more than 23,000 stores in 68 countries worldwide.
New fire station to debut in busy Mall at UTC area
UNIVERSITY PARK -- Sarasota County will host a grand opening celebration this week for its new Fire Station 17 next to Nathan Benderson Park.
The single-story fire station at 5431 Desoto Road measures over 12,000 square feet and features three truck bays, full-time staff and an advance life support ambulance. The building also houses a Sarasota County Sheriff's Office operations facility, which will be used for special projects, equipment storage and staging for large public events in the area. The sheriff's operations facility will not be staffed for daily operations and is not open to the public.
The station's response area handles roughly 2,000 calls per year. With the continued growth of the area, which includes Nathan Benderson Park and the Mall at University Town Center, calls are expected to increase. The new station has the capacity to support that growth, according to county officials.
The celebration and a traditional "uncoupling of the hose" ceremony begin at 10 a.m. Thursday.
