Joey D's opens 4th restaurant, plans fifth

BRADENTON -- Joey D's, a Chicago-style pizzeria and restaurant, opened its fourth location, and Tommy Dennis said he and his brother Bobby hope to open a fifth location in Palmetto in February.

The Dennis brothers renovated the space at 6401 Manatee Ave., formerly an Atlanta Bread Company, over the past five months. They hoped to open in September but some customized equipment, renovations and permitting processes took longer than they expected. The Manatee Avenue restaurant passed its state health inspection on Friday.

At the new location, Joey D's customers can look forward to 15 types of draft beer. It will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Ranch chef hosting pop-up restaurant

LAKEWOOD RANCH -- After winning the state's "Healthy, Fast, 'Fresh From Florida' Challenge," Chef Louis Robinson will host a pop-up restaurant in Sarasota featuring original recipes.

The event will take place at 7 p.m. Nov. 30 at Baker & Wife, 2157 Siesta Drive.

The menu will include "many unique ingredients you may not have tried before," according to a release from the chef and will consist of five plates. Ingredients featured include Serrano chiles, mole Amarillo, gooseberry and purple potatoes.

Tickets are $85 and can be purchased at SpiceFlorida.com/events.

CROP Organic Juice Bar opens third location

UNIVERSITY PARK -- Sarasota-based CROP Organic Juice Bar & Cafe will open at 8 a.m. Saturday at 8211 Tourist Center Drive.

The first CROP, founded by a former oncology nurse, opened on Sarasota's Gulf Gate Drive in January 2014. The store offers more than 20 varieties of green and fruit juices packaged in glass bottles. They also offer their own Mylks made from almonds, smoothies, overnight oats, desserts, energy bites and other food items.

The hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Lowe's reports better-than-expected earnings

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Lowe's reported third-quarter earnings Wednesday that topped analysts' expectations, pointing to further momentum in the U.S. housing recovery.

The nation's second-largest home improvement retailer reported a profit of $736 million, up almost 26 percent from the same quarter a year ago. On a diluted basis, earnings were 80 cents a share, above the 78 cents that analysts surveyed by Bloomberg had estimated.

For the quarter ending Oct. 30, sales totaled $14.4 billion, up 5 percent from a year ago and above the Wall Street estimate of $14.3 billion.
