Health inspectors find more cockroaches, keep Jose's Real Cuban Food in Bradenton closed

MANATEE -- Food and sanitation inspectors from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation's Division of Hotels and Restaurants returned to Jose's Real Cuban Food at 8799 Cortez Road W. on Wednesday and still found dead and live cockroaches at the restaurant.

The eatery will remain closed until inspectors return Friday to perform another evaluation.

Owner Jose Baserva contested FDBPR's inspection report and said he found only one roach in the restaurant when inspectors returned for the follow-up inspection. He added that the cooler where the roach was found isn't used for anything.

Baserva said he has plans if Friday's inspection turns up the same results.

"Tomorrow morning they will do another inspection and then if we don't pass because they see one cockroach, I'm going to burn the place down, and I guess that'll take care of it," Baserva said.
