Overview
The 2025 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is a full-size van offered in Passenger, Crew, and Cargo configurations and competes with like-minded rivals such as the Ford Transit and Ram ProMaster. It's fitted with a 2.0-liter turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine with either 168 hp or 208 hp, linked to a 9-speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission and a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive. The body is highly configurable and comes in two roof heights, two wheelbase lengths, and several weight ratings from 2500 to 4500, giving you access to dozens of possible configurations.
What's New for 2025
The 2025 Spinter gets more standard features this year, notably a gauge cluster with a color digital display, a 3D surround-view camera system, Sideguard Assist with blind-spot assistance, passive child detection in the vehicle (Crew and Passenger only), tire-pressure monitoring or dual rear-wheel models, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. The latest MBUX infotainment system with a 10.25-inch touchscreen is an option. A new Hightech Silver paint color is also now available.
There are also changes to the optional packages: the Comfort Plus package's content has been enhanced (it now includes a heated steering wheel), and there are brand-new Winter and Drive Assist packages. The eSprinter electric van continues separately.
Exterior
As befits a van, the Sprinter is a box on wheels, with purely functional styling. The rear swing doors open wide, and you can specify a sliding side for easy loading access. Two wheelbase lengths - 144 or 170 inches - are available, and the long wheelbase can also be had with an extended body for maximum interior volume. You can spec a standard and a high roof, the latter with up to 77 inches of interior standing height. The largest Sprinter configuration provides a segment-leading 533 cu-ft of cargo space.
Interior
The driver's area features an instrument cluster with a color digital display and Moving Off Information System with a 360-degree camera view, and the latest version of the MBUX system is available, complete with voice controls, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Standard features include a heated driver's seat, cruise control, and power windows. Available swivel seats ease entry and egress.
The Cargo Van is sold as a blank slate to be upfitted by Mercedes eXpertSOLUTIONS. The Crew Van is an in-betweener with a Cargo Van rear body, but a removable 3-seater second-row bench with side windows. The Passenger Van can accommodate 12 or 15 people, with the available Select trim adding premium amenities. Cargo capacity maxes out at 533 cu-ft.

Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Dozens of configurations from Cargo to 15-passenger
- 9-speed automatic refined and efficient for a van
- Up to 6,812-lbs payload and 77-inch standing height
- 20,000-mile service intervals reduce downtime
Cons:
- Higher price than Ford Transit and Ram ProMaster
- Fuel economy is not EPA-rated and estimated in the mid-teens
- AWD adds significant cost to already premium pricing
- Diesel-only powertrain with no gasoline option
- Interior amenities remain basic compared to passenger vehicles
Verdict
The Sprinter is still the full-size commercial van benchmark, and this year's tech and safety improvements just strengthen its case. It costs more than a Transit or ProMaster, but its turbo-diesel efficiency and Mercedes engineering count for a lot, as does the many available configurations.
The 170-inch wheelbase 2500 Cargo with the high roof is the popular choice for good reason, providing standing height and generous cargo volume, with access to the high-output engine and AWD.
