Dim Sum Kitchen opens at Lakewood Ranch, serving made-from-scratch Chinese favorites

It didn’t take long for dim sum lovers to discover Dim Sum Kitchen, which opened recently at 11544 Palmbrush Trail.

The restaurant has been staying busy serving their traditional bamboo bowls of popular treats, ranging from steamed shrimp dumplings to baked barbecue pork buns, pan fried turnip cakes, steamed bean curd skin rolls, and many other dim sum selections.

Owners Emily Lin and her husband Ming Bo say Dim Sum Kitchen represents the realization of a dream.

Ming Bo, who comes from a family of dim sum chefs, has worked as a chef for more than two decades, starting in his native China, before immigrating to San Francisco, and more recently working in restaurants in the Bradenton-Sarasota area.

“My husband planned his whole life to have a restaurant. We just want to try our best to have good quality food. All the customers say they are so happy to have Dim Sum Kitchen here. We have received so many good reviews on social media,” Lin said.

The couple live near the restaurant with their children, making the location very attractive to them. The restaurant is located just east of Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy, near the intersection of State Road 70 and Lakewood Ranch Boulevard.

Ming Bo says the Guangzhou dim sum, also known as Cantonese dim sum, is an important part of the food culture of southern China, and has been embraced around the world.

Dim sum may include seafood, meat or vegetables and be steamed, fried or baked, and is frequently enjoyed with hot tea.

Highly recommended are the steamed shrimp dumplings and the house egg custard lava buns. Dim sum prices start at $3.95 per bowl.

A dim sum combination with two items served with lo mein and a soda is offered for $10.99.
