New grocery store coming to one of the busiest intersections in Manatee County
Rapidly growing Sprouts Farmers Market has filed paperwork with Manatee County Building Services to open its first store in Manatee County.
Planned for the Cortez Plaza at 1205 Cortez Road W., the proposed store would be located at 14th Street West, one of the busiest intersections in Manatee County.
Requested is a “full store remodel of existing space for new Sprouts,” according to the application, which is under review by Manatee County government staff.
Sprouts opened its first store in Chandler, Arizona, in 2002, and now has more than 360 stores in 23 states across the U.S.
The company touts its organic choices, helpful staff and wide, spacious aisles.
“People thought we were crazy when we wouldn’t sell the country’s top-selling sodas, snacks and candy. But we believed that eating clean and living healthy was more than just a trend. Sprouts has 33 Florida stores with locations closest to Bradenton in Sarasota, Riverview, Brandon and Tampa.
While Sprouts sells itself as a farmers market, it is also a full-service grocery
, “including fresh meat and seafood, a full-service deli, dairy, eggs, frozen foods, bulk foods, vitamins and supplements, baked goods, and craft beer and wine.,” the company website says.
Sprouts also touts its standards for sustainable sourcing, ethical purchasing, product traceability and fair treatment of people and animals. Sprouts supports local brands, including locally grown produce and meats.
Sprouts defines local as made or produced in the state or within 500 miles.
A typical Sprouts Farmer Market measures 20,000- to 30,000-square feet with ceilings at least 20-feet high.
In its second quarter earning report, Sprouts reported net sales of $1.5 billion; a 7% decrease from the same period in 2020 and a 7% increase from the same period in 2019.
“I am pleased with our strong profit results in the second quarter, continuing to build on the positive step change in financial performance we made in 2020,” CEO Jack Sinclair said in the second-quarter earnings report.
“As I look forward to the balance of the year, I am excited about growing our differentiated brand proposition.
