Food scene changing rapidly in Bradenton area with new options on the way
Something new and something familiar are coming to a fast-food location near you.
First the new: Aussie Grill by Outback at 4430 14th St. W. in Manatee County. The application for the planned restaurant with a drive-thru is being reviewed by Manatee County Building and Development Services.
The menu at Aussie Grill is inspired by Outback Steakhouse and includes steaks, sandwiches, salads, sides and snacks, and desserts and beverages.
Aussie Grill is one of the newest offerings from Tampa-based Bloomin’ Brands, Inc. Other brands include Outback Steakhouse, Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Bonefish Grill, and Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar.
Aussie Grill has two locations in Brandon, one in Wesley Chapel/Lutz, one in Riverview and one in Tampa. Other locations are coming to Clearwater, Fort Myers, and Trinity, according to the company website.
Now the familiar: Jersey Mike’s Subs, known for fresh sliced/fresh grilled subs, will open Aug, 4 at 6737 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
Franchise owners Jason Amarosa and Frank Czaszynski will have a grand opening and fundraiser from Wednesday, Aug. 4, to Sunday, Aug. 8 to support the Manatee Memorial Foundation. Customers with a special fundraising coupon can make a minimum $2 contribution to the foundation in exchange for a regular sub. Customers must have a coupon to be eligible.
Guests can place takeout orders in-store or for pickup through the website.
Jersey Mike’s has three other locations in the Bradenton area: 4040 14th St. W., Bradenton, 5820 Ranch Lake Blvd., in East Manatee, and 8210 Tourist Center Drive in University Park. Nationwide, the company has more than 2,500 locations open or under development.

In other restaurant news:
▪ Mission BBQ has renovation underway for its second Bradenton area restaurant at 5231 University Parkway, unit 109, in in the Market at UTC shopping center. The space was formerly occupied by Half Shell Seafood House. The restaurant is next door to Yaki sushi and is expected to open this September.
Mission BBQ opened its first Bradenton restaurant in 2017 at 4501 14th St. W., in the Cortez Plaza.
Mission BBQ has restaurants in 11 states. The company has not released information on when it hopes to open its second Manatee County restaurant.
▪ Renovation is underway at 6150 Cortez Road W., Bradenton, on restaurant space formerly occupied by Hurricane Grill & Wings and LeRoy Selmon’s for a new restaurant named Avocado’s Cocina Mexicana & Bar.
The owner, Ramiro Ramirez, also owns Habaneros Mexican Grill and Bar, 5120 Manatee Ave. W.
Renovations are being completed by Charlie’s Construction Company of Sarasota. Financing is through the U.S. Small Business Administration. The owners have not announced a projected opening date.
▪ Applications have been filed with Manatee County government to open Arby’s restaurants at 11475 U.S. 301 N., Parrish, and at 9610 S.R. 64 E., Bradenton.
Arby’s already has a Bradenton location is at 3608 First St. W.
▪ An application has been filed with Manatee County government for a free standing Dunkin’ restaurant in Parrish at 11475 U.S. 301 N.
▪ An application has been filed with Manatee County government to renovate the former Carmel Kitchen & Wine Bar at 8433 Cooper Creek Blvd. Planned for the space is the Post Kitchen & Bar. From the owner of Apollonia Grill comes this new modern American bistro. The menu will focus on elevated classics, seafood and creative new dishes. Scheduled to open late this year in the Shoppes at UTC.
▪ An application has been filed with Manatee County government to renovate space at 5275 University Parkway as a future Jersey Girl Bagels, offering signature bagels made from scratch with bottled spring water, hand rolled, boiled, and stone baked. Scheduled to open this September in the Market at UTC.
▪ Georgie’s Garden Café and Bar George: A posh new brunch and dinner concept from the owner of the popular Jane’s Café on 3rd in Naples is coming to the West District at UTC this September. The adjacent Bar George will serve creative craft cocktails, a tapas-style menu and feature live music. The bar area will stay open late, serving as a premier night-life destination.
▪ Crumbl Cookies: Gourmet cookie takeout and delivery company that serves four different specialty flavors that rotate each week, plus standard favorites that are always on the menu like chocolate chip and chilled sugar cookie. Location: West District at UTC.
▪ Five-O Donut Co: Fourth location for this locally owned doughnut shop. Coming to the West District at UTC near Chipotle late this year/early 2022.
