Expansion at this Aldi store in Bradenton will give shoppers bigger fresh food selection
Aldi, the little grocery chain that is no longer so little and that is growing in popularity with shoppers, is expanding one of its four Manatee County stores.
“We are excited to confirm our Bradenton store, located at 4525 53rd Ave. E., will undergo an expansion remodel later this year. This store remodel is part of an ongoing initiative to remodel and expand existing ALDI stores nationwide,” Matt Thon, Haines City division vice president for ALDI, said in an email this week.
“The Bradenton store will be expanded to offer shoppers an improved layout and even more space for their favorite ALDI-exclusive products. Specifically, the renovated store will feature ample refrigeration to accommodate an expanded fresh and convenient food selection.,” Thon said.
The store is located on one corner of a highly competitive intersection, State Road 70 and 45th Street East, with Publix and a Walmart Neighborhood Market staking out opposing corners.
Manatee County commissioners recently approved Aldi’s plans to add 2,350 square feet of space to the store, expanding to to a total of 19,368 square feet of space on a 3.96-acre parcel.
“All updated stores still offer the signature, streamlined ALDI shopping experience, but customers will notice the elevated design,” Thon said.
Aldi has about 2,000 stores in 36 states and projects that it will become the third-largest grocery retailer in the United States by 2022.
About 90 percent of the products sold in Aldi’s compact, no-frills stores are company brands. The company is known for requiring a quarter to be inserted to use a grocery cart. The quarter is returned when the customer returns the cart, saving Aldi from having to chase down carts in its parking lots.
Aldi also has stores at 5715 14th St. W., Bradenton, 4705 Cortez Road, Bradenton, and 605 10th St. E., Palmetto.
