Cybersecurity issue takes down computers at Manatee Memorial, Lakewood Ranch hospitals
Universal Health Services, parent company of Manatee Memorial Hospital and Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, confirmed Monday morning that its IT network is currently offline company-wide, due to an IT security issue.
“We implement extensive IT security protocols and are working diligently with our IT security partners to restore IT operations as quickly as possible. In the meantime, our facilities are using their established back-up processes including offline documentation methods. Patient care continues to be delivered safely and effectively,” said a UHS spokeswoman in a text message.
No patient or employee data appears to have been accessed, copied or otherwise compromised, the text said.
The outage began Sunday morning. The company spokeswoman said UHS is working as quickly and diligently as possible on a resolution of the problem.
Manatee Memorial, with 319 beds and Lakewood Ranch with 120 beds, are Universal Health Services (UHS) hospitals, based in King of Prussia, Pa.
The UHS spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a question about the nature of the IT security issue.
Both of the Bradenton area hospitals were referring questions about the IT issue to the UHS director of public relations.
