Walmart adds convenience store and gas station to one of its Bradenton superstores
Walmart, the company that helped introduce big-box stores, on Wednesday opens a new gas station and convenience store in Bradenton.
The 1,440-square-foot fuel center in the Walmart Supercenter parking lot at 5305 Cortez Road W., is believed to be the first of its kind in the Bradenton-Sarasota area.
The fuel center will initially be open from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m., and will function similarly to a traditional gas station and convenience store.
The Bradenton fuel center has 16 fuel pumps and an assortment of food and beverage options inside, including grab-and-go deli items, snacks, fruits, cheeses, plus dispensed beverages, and a walk-in beer cooler.
Walmart rolled out its first prototype fuel center in Arkansas in 2017, and opened three more in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in 2018, according to Forbes.
The new convenience store is not Walmart’s first foray into smaller-sized stores in the Bradenton area. In 2016, Walmart opened a Neighborhood Market at 4536 53rd Ave. E.
The 43,000-square-foot Neighborhood Market is about one-quarter the size of a typical Supercenter. It is located at the intersection of State Road 70 and Lockwood Ridge Road. Other grocers at that intersection include Publix and Aldi.
There are now more than 20 Walmart fuel stations in Florida and more than 370 in the United States.
Walmart plans a customer appreciation event for its new Bradenton fuel center later this year. For more information, follow the Walmart Supercenter on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/Walmart1004/.
