Newly opened Angelino Palmetto brings Italian cuisine alternative to Manatee County
Ask manager Fabio Onori what he would recommend from the menu at Angelino Palmetto, and he might recommend the parmigiana, the rigatoni alla carbonara or the saltimbocca all romana.
“All are very good,” he said.
Angelino Palmetto recently opened at 336 Eighth Ave. W. in a white, two-story buidling that has been home to several previous restaurants. The Palmetto restaurant is a sister to Angelino Sarasota that opened recently at 481 N. Orange Ave.
The staff and cuisine at both are all Italian.
Fortunately, the menu offerings are in Italian and English. The melanzane alla parmigiana is basically a traditional southern Italian fried eggplant dish with tomato and mozzarella cheese, that lists for $13.
The saltimbocca all romana is a Roman veal dish layered with ham, cheese and sage for $17.
Other dishes require no translation, such as lasagna at $19 and pizza, starting at $12.
Rounding out the menu are the soup of the day for $8 and salads starting at $6.
Gabriele Nanni, second in charge at Angelino Palmetto, said the restaurant takes its name from the parent company in Rome.
Although Angelino Palmetto does not yet have a web site, its sister restaurant in Sarasota does.
“To celebrate Angelino’s legacy, the family decided to expand the pursuit to the U.S., carefully selecting Sarasota and Palmetto as the ideal locations for their overseas adventure,” according to the web site. “Angelino strives to produce exceptional Italian cuisine and offer an unforgettable experience to all guests.”
Several months work went into preparing Angelino Palmetto for its opening, Nanni said.
So, while the building looks classically American outside, it looks authentically Italian inside with white linen tablecloths, lots of Italian art, and plenty of wine bottles on display.
“This is an Italian and Roman kitchen. We have a lot of good food and some daily specials,” Nanni said.
Adds Onori, what guests can expect is family service and tasty food.
The restaurant is open 11:30 a.m. - 9:30 p.m. seven days a week. Closing hours may be later, if business warrants, he said.
Angelino Palmetto has seating for 75. Reservations are suggested at 941-212-4880 but walk-ins are welcome.
