Yaki opens in Bradenton with sushi and hibachi. Korean barbecue is coming, too.

Yaki Sushi Grill BBQ opened Feb. 7, offering sushi and hibachi grill food items to diners in the Bradenton-Sarasota area.

Manager Ann Huynh is happy to have the restaurant open, but is especially excited about what is coming in the next few weeks: Korean barbecue.

Yaki Sush is located at in unit 113, 5231 University Parkway, in The Market at UTC shopping center, which is anchored by The Fresh Market and Kohl’s.

The staff is now being trained on Korean barbecue, and how to assist diners in using the grills built into dining tables. A variety of meats and cuts will be available for Korean barbecue, including beef brisket, marinate sirloin, chicken, pork, lamb, bacon and more.

“Korean barbecue allows family and friends to spend time together with each other around the table,” Huynh said. “We want our guests to take their time with their food.”

Huynh grew up in the restaurant business in Orlando, and says that Korean barbecue will be something new in her experience.

In the meantime, there is sushi and hibachi items. Sushi chef Jason Jong was preparing a selection of sushi this week for friends Becky Suverkrup and Nancy Hamilton, who were taking a break from a day of shopping.

Arrayed before them were a spicy tuna roll, salmon sashimi, and more.

Hamilton says she could eat sushi five days a week, and was encouraging Suverkrup to become more adventurous. “Baby steps,” Hamilton said.

Suverkrup, a fan of ahi tuna, expressed satisfaction with her sushi order.

“It was wonderful,” she said.

Huynh hopes all of her guests are just as pleased.

“We want each customer to have a great experience,” she said.
