Food allergy reactions spurred a recall of two Whole Foods holiday season snacks
Two allergic reactions caused two types of Whole Foods store brand limited edition holiday season sandwich cremes to be recalled Friday, the chain announced through the FDA.
As is often the case in food allergy recalls, packaging is the problem.
The 365 Everyday Value Double Chocolate Peppermint Sandwich Creme might contain milk. This was not disclosed on the boxes of those with a best by date of May 1, 2020. Similarly, the 365 Everyday Value Double Chocolate Caramel Sea Salt contains both milk and coconut, a tree nut. This wasn’t on the boxes of those with a best by date of May 9, 2020.
“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk or coconut run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product,” the recall notice states.
All the recalled sandwich cremes have been pulled from shelves, but they might be in consumers’ pantries. Those who know the sandwich cremes won’t be eaten by anyone with a food allergy can continue eating them.
Others can return them to Whole Foods Market for a full refund. Whole Foods requests a receipt, although the store might be forgiving on that as this is their house brand.
