Sorry, Ellenton, those movie theater plans fell through. But you may be getting a 5-story hotel

After plans for an 11-screen movie theater in Ellenton fell through, a developer is proposing to build a five-story hotel on the site near Ellenton Premium Outlets.

The 120,050-square-foot hotel with a maximum of 220 units, along with two retail outparcels totaling 25,600 square feet are planned for 5939 25th St. E. The property is also known as the northwest corner of 60th Avenue East and Factory Shops Boulevard.

The developer, Jiten Patel of Ohm Teerth Investments & Consulting, is seeking a revised general site development plan for the 7.86-acre parcel, according to records filed with Manatee County Government.

Pending county approvals, the developer declined further comment at this time.

As first reported in September 2016 by the Bradenton Herald, OM Cinemas, in coordination with property owner IMG Enterprises Inc., proposed a 34,000-square-foot movie theater on the property.

The Manatee County Commission approved plans to build the movie theater in January 2017, with the stipulation that traffic concerns in the area be addressed first.

Although the area north of the Manatee River continues to go without a movie theater, a cinema planned for the Robinson Gateway project could still be in play.

County commissioners approved plans for a 1,750-seat theater along with the rest of the 288-acre multi-use development in 2015. Robinson Gateway would be located about two miles south of the Hillsborough County line to the north of Moccasin Wallow Road between Interstate 75 on the west and Carter Road on the east.

Cherry Lake Real Estate lists another 37 acres just to the north of Ellenton hotel project site as for sale for $11.9 million. The LoopNet web site indicates the 7.86-acre hotel site is under contract.
