Popular seafood restaurant temporarily shut down due to roach activity

Inspectors were forced to order the temporary closure of one Bradenton Beach restaurant when each of their four separate visits to the restaurant within a week yielded the discovery of roaches in the kitchen and dry storage area.

  • Inspectors at Sharky’s Seagrill, 2519 N. Gulf Dr., Bradenton Beach, ordered the restaurant to temporarily close due to roach activity. Raw animal food was stored over ready-to-eat food in the kitchen’s reach-in cooler. The restaurant was also cited for holding onto ready-to-eat food that had been prepared Nov. 27. Servers were also seen touching food or plates without washing their hands, inspectors say. Other marks against the restaurant came due to lack of required state-approved training for some employees and an unlabeled bottle containing a toxic substance. After a follow-up inspection, the restaurant was deemed not an immediate threat to the public and was allowed to reopen.
  • The menu at Peach’s Restaurant, 2207 60 Ave. E., Ellenton, does not specify which animal foods are raw or undercooked and proof of state-approved employee training was not available.
