Manatee County restaurants cited for roaches, mold
Manatee County restaurants were found to have dead roaches in dry storage rooms and mold-like buildup in their ice machines.
Meanwhile, Inspectors said one restaurant was holding on to sauces that were prepared three weeks ago.
Here is the latest Manatee County restaurant inspections report:
- Inspectors at Pier 22, 1200 First Ave. W., Bradenton, found five dead roaches in a dry storage room. They also observed employees wash hands with cold water and no soap. The manager lacked proof of food manager certification and foods were discovered being cold held at a temperature higher than 41 degrees.
- At MacAllisters Grill & Tavern, 8110 Lakewood Main St., Lakewood Ranch, inspectors discovered the restaurant’s menu did not detail which foods contained raw or uncooked animal foods. State-approved employee training also was not available for some employees.
- Inspectors at Ed’s Tavern, 10719 Rodeo Dr., Bradenton, noted that there was a black/green mold-like substance in the ice machine. The water filter inside the machine marked that April 22, 2014, was the last time it was changed. Employees were seen using the handwashing sink for purposes other than washing hands and some employees lacked proof of state-approved training.
- Island Gourmet Grill, 5910 Marina Dr., Holmes Beach, was found to have foods prepared more than seven days ago in a walk-in cooler. Inspectors said a pizza sauce that was prepared on Thanksgiving Day was kept in the cooler along with other foods prepared more than a week ago. Inspectors said food also was not properly marked with a date after it had been opened.
- At C’est La Vie!, 8527 Cooper Creek Blvd., Bradenton, inspectors observed a mold-like substance/slime in the drink machine’s ice chute and food that was cold held at a temperature higher than 41 degrees.
- The certified food manager at Five Star Pizza, 5942 34th St. W., No. 110, Bradenton, lacked knowledge of foodborne illnesses and symptoms that would prevent an employee from working with food and other items in the restaurant. The restaurant also lacked sanitizer for warewashing and was ordered to serve food using single-service items until sanitizer could be obtained. Both citations were corrected on-site.
- Employees at McDonald’s, 7300 Cortez Road W., Bradenton, did not have proof of state-approved training and inspectors noted faults with the sink faucet.
- Fuzzy’s Taco Shop at University Groves, 2515 University Parkway, No. 101, Bradenton, had a soiled soda gun and the ice chute in the drink machine contained a buildup of mold-like/slimy substance. There also was food stored in the ice used for drinks.
- The ice machine at Anna Maria Oyster Bar, 1525 51st Ave. E., Ellenton, had an accumulation of black/green mold-like substance and the restaurant had an unlabeled spray bottle containing a toxic substance.
