Grease trap leak leads to raw sewage buildup at Manatee fast-food restaurant
The grease trap started to leak onto the floor at a popular fast-food restaurant, but that was only the beginning of its problems.
Two administrative complaints were given during a restaurant inspection at the McDonald’s at 3631 Cortez Road W. on Sept. 15, according to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
As the grease dripped onto the floor, a plumber stated that it began going into the plumbing, leading to a sewage backup, according to the inspection.
“Observed raw sewage on floor at front counter at multiple drains and at drain at hand washing sink on cook line,” the inspector wrote. “Observed raw sewage pooling on floor on cook line and at floor at front counter.”
By the time the follow-up inspection rolled around on Sept. 21, the issue was fixed. The restaurant was given time extensions to replace a trash can lid, a missing drain plug and a missing vacuum breaker on the mop sink faucet, the report said.
Another restaurant, Cinema Cafe at 10715 Rodeo Drive, was given a time extension for not submitting to the department its renovation plans, which includes a bigger food service counter and kitchen area, the report said.
