Popular restaurant famous for pies, roller skate facility cited for roach activity

Four local food establishments were cited in the past week by Florida restaurant inspectors, for problems with roaches to poor food handling.

▪  Miller’s Dutch Kitch’n, 3401 14th St. W., was cited for several high-priority violations during a July 13 inspection, including roach activity and improper food-holding temperatures. According to the report: “Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found. Observed live roach on kitchen floor proximal to cook line. Roach went into floor drain. Operator caught, killed and discarded roach. **Corrected on-site**” No violations were observed by inspectors during another inspection later that day, but they returned on July 21 and again cited the restaurant for improper food-holding temperatures. Inspectors will return to conduct a follow-up inspection on an unspecified date.

▪  Astro Skate of Bradenton, 3611 3rd St. W., was cited for roach activity during a July 20 inspection. “Dead roaches on premises. Observed three dead roaches at cabinet for slushy flavoring at front counter, approximately ten on top of water heater at kitchen, and approximately 20 at interior of reach in cooler at large storage room,” according to the report. Astro Skate was also cited for failing to sanitize food-contact surfaces after cleaning and before use. Washing dishes and sanitizing them are separate steps under the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation’s standards. Inspectors returned the same day and recorded only one violation: a ceiling tile in disrepair.

▪  Dom’s Deli, 2119 63rd Ave. E., was cited during a July 17 inspection for having food with “mold-like growth.” A stop sale was issued. Managers also lacked the proper food service manager certification, and the restaurant’s menu did not “identify which items contain raw or undercooked animal foods covered by the consumer advisory. Eggs, burgers.” Inspectors will return to conduct a follow-up inspection on an unspecified date.

▪  Taqueria Morales, 1880 63rd Ave., was operating without proper licensing on July 17, according to the inspection report. A stop sale was also issued for improper food-holding temperatures. “Stop Sale issued on potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food due to temperature abuse. Person in charge states cooked chicken was cooked yesterday and kept overnight in freezer with a 58 degrees Fahrenheit ambient temperature: cooked chicken in separate tubs 60 degrees Fahrenheit, 64 degrees Fahrenheit, 55 degrees Fahrenheit,” per the report. Inspectors will return to conduct a follow-up inspection on an unspecified date.

From previous reports:

▪  Lety Sabor Latino, 2211 9th St. W., has had trouble achieving the Goldilocks effect with sanitizer solution. During an inspection a week earlier, inspectors found the sanitizer solution was too weak. When they returned on July 21, it was too strong. An inspection later the same day cleared the establishment of all violations.
