The owners of Daiquiri Deck have decided it’s time to come to Bradenton.

The news came out after a Facebook post made by the page Restaurants in Sarasota. The post provided an update on Daiquiri Deck’s newest location in South Siesta Key, which opens Tuesday, said Daiquiri Deck owner Russell Matthes. At the end, it added that construction on Anna Maria Island is next for the three-part Daiquiri Deck ownership team.

The planning is still in the beginning stages, Matthes said, but he and co-owners Troy Syprett and Matthew Grover hope to have the restaurant and bar open by March.

“We have been in negotiations with Jake and we have some pretty solid plans,” Matthes said.

Bradenton Beach city officials confirmed the zoning and review process is complete, but the city has not received construction plans yet.

Jake Spooner, owner of the Bridge Street Bazaar gift shop, has owned the property located between the Island Time Inn and the Fish Hole Miniature Golf for four years. The future home of Daiquiri Deck is less than a quarter of an acre. Spooner plans to build a three-story structure, with an open deck on the roof, and Matthes guessed all three floors together would total roughly 6,500 square feet.

Spooner and his mom Debbie Sniadach own the vacant property as well as the site of the mini golf and retail shop Bridge Street Bazaar.

As part of the development, the owners plan to move Bridge Street Bazaar to the new building. Plans haven’t been fully developed for the retail shop’s current home.

Spooner and Sniadach searched for a suitable restaurant tenant for the project and landed on Daiquiri Deck.

“They’re going to be on the second and the third floor, and we’ll have our retail operation (Bridge Street Bazaar) on the first floor,” Spooner said. “We’re looking for someone that would be open for lunch and for dinner to draw more people through the shop. We’ve been familiar with them for a long time, and know what a successful operation they run.”

With another restaurant on Bridge Street comes more traffic, parking and noise woes. Spooner is aware of the issues and said as a part of his proposal to the city, he included a shuttle service between “the Cortez beach area and Bridge Street” that runs in the evening, seven days a week. As far as noise, Spooner said Daiquiri Deck’s low-key atmosphere shouldn’t produce a lot of it.

“What I’ve been told is that they’ll just have one, like a solo acoustic performer,” he said. “They’re not looking to have amplified (music). It’s a family establishment, and that’s another reason why we’re happy to have them.”

The bar and restaurant menu at the Bridge Street location will be similar to those found at the four other Daiquiri Deck locations in Sarasota County. What will really set the establishment apart from others on Bridge Street will be the Gulf view.

“That’s our objective,” Matthes said. “We need to offer something a little different, and that will be the view. It will be outdoor dining with the view of the Gulf.”
