Hitting the road for Memorial Day weekend? Be sure to pack your patience
Planning a Memorial Day weekend road trip to celebrate the unofficial start of summer?
If so, expect a lot of company.
According to AAA’s travel forecast, 2.08 million Floridians are expected to travel during the holiday weekend, the most since 2005 and a 3.3 percent increase from a year ago.
“The expected spike in Memorial Day travel mirrors the positive growth seen throughout the travel industry this year,” Vicky Evans, AAA’s assistant vice president for travel sales development, said in a press release. “Higher confidence, rising wages and recent gas price declines have bolstered consumer spending, leaving many Americans with more money to spend on travel this Memorial Day.”
Nationwide, 39.3 million Americans are projected to travel 50 miles or more from May 25-29, which would mark the highest travel volume for Memorial Day weekend in 12 years.
