The Mall at University Town Center hires new general manager

A little less than three weeks after The Mall at University Town Center announced its previous general manager’s departure, five-year Taubman Co. executive Jeramy Burkinshaw has taken the position.

In a news release distributed Friday, the company announced Burkinshaw will be responsible for overseeing operations, retailer and community relations and marketing for the 880,000-square-foot shopping center that opened in October 2014.

Burkinshaw has been in the industry for 14 years, according to the release, and was most recently operations manager at Taubman’s City Creek Center in Salt Lake City. He was on the grand-opening team for four Taubman shopping centers, including the Mall at UTC and the International Market Place in Waikiki, Hawaii, The Mall of San Juan in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and City Creek Center.

Burkinshaw has spent most of his professional life working in Utah, including senior operations and public safety and security management positions at IPC International, Vinyl Fence Corporation and Owell Precast, according to the release. He also holds a bachelor of science in business administration from the University of Phoenix in Murray, Utah.

“Having served on the grand-opening team for The Mall at University Town Center, I am very familiar with the unique position the center holds within the community,” Burkinshaw said in the release. “This is a vibrant market and I look forward to contributing to the center’s ongoing success.”

Since opening in October 2014, The Mall at University Town Center has had seven stores close: Cache, Boston Proper, Jackie Z, Ondademar, Moleskine, Edward Beiner and Banana Moon. Since early November, the Mall at UTC has welcomed six new stores.
