What is closed or canceled around Bradenton because of coronavirus? Here’s a list

Local businesses and organizations are responding to concerns related to the coronavirus pandemic by temporarily shutting down operations or canceling events in the Bradenton area as a matter of public safety. National chains are also announcing closures and making changes to day-to-day business operations.

Here is a list of local gatherings and businesses affected by COVID-19. It will be updated as cancellations, closures and changes are announced.

Community events

The Bradenton Farmers’ Market has been canceled through May 2, 2020, including the annual Mainly Art and Children’s Book Fair events. Realize Bradenton, which operates the farmers’ market, will make further programming announcements via its website and Facebook page.

Realize Bradenton has also canceled its Music in the Park concert series that was scheduled for Fridays in March and April on Bradenton Riverwalk with plans to reschedule at a future date.

Bradenton Motorsports Park has postponed its “Battle In The Bay 3” racing event until May 16.

The Market at Lakewood Ranch has been canceled through the end of April.

Music on Main events scheduled for April 3 and May 1 in Lakewood Ranch are canceled.

The Manatee Pride Festival, which was slated for March 21, has been postponed to May 23rd at the Bradenton Riverwalk.

Sarasota County is canceling all events with anticipated attendance of 250 individuals or more at county facilities for 30 days beginning Friday, March 13.

The Sarasota County Fair, which was set to run March 13 to March 22, has been canceled.

The Sarasota Film Festival, scheduled for March 27 to April 5, has been postponed to an undetermined date.

The 38th annual Suncoast Boat Show in Sarasota has been postponed until April 23 to April 25, 2021.

Museums, zoos, aquariums

The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature in Bradenton is temporarily closed as of March 17.

The Florida Maritime Museum in Cortez is closed until further notice as of March 17.

The Palmetto Historical Park is closed until further notice as of March 17.

The Manatee County Agricultural Museum in Palmetto is closed until further notice as of March 17.

Manatee Village Historical Park in Bradenton is closed until further notice.

Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium in Sarasota is closed to the public until further notice as of March 16.

The Ringling (The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art) in Sarasota is closed until further notice as of March 17.

Sarasota Jungle Gardens is closed until further notice as of March 17.

The Dali Museum in St. Petersburg has announced a temporary closure, March 16 through March 31.

Shows, performances, theater

Manatee Performing Arts Center has suspended all performances, classes and events. As many of the events as possible will be rescheduled.

Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall in Sarasota has suspended all events through March 31 due to the public health emergency, and several shows beyond that date have also been canceled or postponed.

Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center, a music and events venue operated by local radio station WSLR in Sarasota has canceled all events scheduled from March 13 to May 10.

The Island Players Theater, 10009 Gulf Dr., Anna Maria, has canceled the remainder of its performance season.

The Players Centre for Performing Arts has canceled all performances through April 18 with plans to reschedule if possible.

The Sarasota Cuban Ballet School announced the cancellation of its annual springtime dance performance that was scheduled for March 29 at the Venice Performing Arts Center.

The Lakewood Ranch Wind Ensemble was scheduled to give a concert March 15 at Our Lady of Angels Church in Lakewood Ranch, but the event has now been postponed to an undetermined date.

The remainder of the Sarasota Jazz Festival has been canceled. The event began on March 8 and was schedule to continue through March 14.

The Sarasota Opera announced that it is canceling all opera performances and other concerts or events. Patrons may choose to donate their tickets as a tax-deductible contribution or recieve credits for single tickets.

Regal Cinemas locations are closed until further notice as of March 17.

Sports

Major League Baseball has suspended all operations, including spring training games.

Teams affected locally include the Pittsburgh Pirates, who train in Bradenton, the Baltimore Orioles, who train in Sarasota, the Atlanta Braves, who train in North Port, and the Tampa Bay Rays.

All Tampa Bay Lightning games are postponed after the National Hockey League announced the suspension of its 2019-2020 season.

NCAA’s March Madness college basketball tournament, which was scheduled to take place in part at Amalie Arena in Tampa, has been canceled.

The Bradenton Bombers Roller Derby team has suspended all league activities, practices and public events until further notice, including a home game that was scheduled for April 4 at Ellenton Ice and Sports Complex.

All Tampa Bay Rowdies games have been suspended through at least May 10th at the direction of the United Soccer League.

Restaurants

Gov. Ron DeSantis announced a mandatory 30 day closure for all of Florida’s bars and night clubs beginning March 17 at 5 p.m.. All restaurants have been ordered to close dining areas, though many are still offering takeout and delivery orders.

Anna Maria Oyster Bar locations in Bradenton, Bradenton Beach and Ellenton are closed until further notice as of March 27.

Beach Bistro, 6600 Gulf Dr., Holmes Beach, is closed until further notice.



The Beach House, 200 Gulf Dr. N. Bradenton, is closed until further notice.

Ellenton Cafe, 7044 U.S. 301, Ellenton, is closed until further notice.

Heinrich’s German Grill, 8420 Lockwood Ridge Rd., Sarasota, is closed until further notice.

Mattison’s Restaurants in Bradenton and Sarasota are closed until further notice as of March 24.

Oak and Stone locations are closed until further notice. Fastfire by Oak & Stone, 6220 14th St W, Bradenton, will remain open for takeout and third-party delivery and can be reached at 941-253-0003.

Pigout BBQ And Southern Soul Food, located at 12012 Cortez Rd. W., Bradenton. The location at 5718 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton remains open for takeout and curbside pickup (941-761-4567).

Sweet Tomatoes locations, including those at 5407 University Parkway, Bradenton and 4994 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, are closed until further notice.

Starbucks locations across the U.S. are offering to-go service only.

Wicked Cantina locations in Bradenton Beach and Sarasota are closed until further notice. Gift cards are available for purchase online.

Grocery stores and supermarkets

Detwiler’s Farm Market locations are designating a shopping hour for seniors (ages 65 and up) from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. Monday through Saturday, until further notice. Other shoppers are asked to plan their shopping trips accordingly. Nearby Detwiler’s stores are located at 1800 U.S. 301, Palmetto and 6100 N. Lockwood Ridge Rd., Sarasota.

Dollar General stores are dedicating the first hour of shopping each day to seniors as well as closing an hour early each day. Hours vary by location.

Fresh Market locations are designating a special shopping hour for seniors and “those most at risk” from the coronavirus between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. each weekday. Local Fresh Market stores are located at 6701 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton and 5251 University Parkway, University Park.

Publix locations are closing at 8 p.m. nightly, as of March 14. Publix has designated a shopping hour for seniors (ages 65 and up) from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, until further notice.

Red Barn Flea Market in Bradenton is closed until April 8.

Walmart stores have reduced their hours to 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., to give employees more time to restock shelves and clean the stores.

Other retailers

Apple’s retail stores are closed until further notice. Online sales will continue.

Bookstore1Sarasota, 12 S. Palm Ave., Sarasota, is temporarily closed. Online sales will continue.

Designing Women Boutique, 1226 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, is closed until May 1.

Ellenton Premium Outlets is temporarily closed, along with all other Simon Property Group retail outlets. Some essential retailers and restaurants offering to-go food may remain open, and many of the outlet’s brands are continuing sales online.

JCPenney stores are temporarily closed through April 2. Online sales will continue.

Macy’s locations, including the one at The Mall University Town Center, will be closed through March 31 after the close of business on Tuesday. Online sales will continue, the company said.

The Mall at University Town Center is temporarily closed. Some exterior restaurants remain open for to-go orders.

The TJX Companies, Inc. announced a two-week closure of all of its stores beginning March 19. The closure includes all local T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods stores. Online sales will continue.

Parks, beaches and recreation

Manatee County public beaches are closed until further notice. The closure include public beaches on Anna Maria Island, Longboat Key and Beer Can Island.


Florida State Parks are closed until further notice as of March 23. Locally, the closure includes Myakka River State Park, Skyway Fishing Pier State Park, Terra Ceia Preserve State Park, South Fork State Park, Oscar Scherer State Park and Gamble Plantation Historic State Park.

The Southwest Florida Water Management District will close all campgrounds throughout its 16-county region for 30 days as of 1 p.m. March 18.

The Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota are closed until further notice as of March 17.

One-Eyed Jack’s Poker Room in Sarasota (former home of the Sarasota Kennel Club) announced an approximate two week closure as of March 17.

Organizations

The Manatee Community Foundation announced that its Spirit of Manatee Awards Luncheon scheduled for March 25 has been postponed.

The Manatee County Leadership Prayer Breakfast scheduled for March 19 at the Bradenton Area Convention Center has been canceled.

“All sponsorships, table sponsorships and ticket purchases will be valid for the 2021 Leadership Prayer Breakfast which will be held on Thursday, April 8, 2021,” From Cradle to College Foundation announced in a press release.

Manatee Tiger Bay Club has canceled a luncheon scheduled for March 19. Those who have prepaid for the event can apply the funds to the next luncheon or receive a refund.

The Sarasota/Manatee Metropolitan Planning Organization has canceled a board meeting scheduled for March 23 at 9:30 a.m. The next scheduled board meeting is April 20.

The 15th Annual Dick Vitale Gala in Sarasota has been postponed until Sept. 4, 2020.
