3 Manatee County restaurants have closed recently. Take a look at the list

The Manatee County dining scene has said goodbye to a few restaurants.

From a locally-owned eatery to two fast-casual restaurants, here’s a look at some closed dining establishments.

PDQ Chicken

The fast-casual chain closed its location at 5484 Lena Road near State Road 70 E. and Interstate 75 in December.

While it has locations in Sarasota, it was the only Manatee County restaurant for the chain specializing in chicken tenders and chicken sandwiches.

Yum! Brands converted the space into its Saucy! by KFC concept, which focuses on chicken tenders and a variety of sauces.

Tijuana Flats

A fast-casual Tex-Mex restaurant, Tijuana Flats, closed its doors at 2127 Cortez Road W. According to Nation’s Restaurant News, the Florida-based chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in April 2024.

However, Tijuana Flats still operates a restaurant on the Manatee County side of University Parkway.

That location is at 5215 University Parkway, Suite 106.

Slicker’s Eatery

Locally owned Slicker’s Eatery shuttered its doors in early 2026 at 12012 Cortez Road W. It was open for roughly five years.

The restaurant space isn’t vacant. It was transformed into Izzy’s Place, a family diner owned by Tom Theophilopoulous.

The new diner serves breakfast items such as biscuits and gravy, omelettes and waffles as well as sandwiches, salads, side dishes and a dinner menu on select nights.
