Miami-based restaurant with ‘extraordinary’ pizza plans second Manatee location

A second Mister O1 Extraordinary Pizza is planned for Manatee County.

The company has filed paperwork with the county’s development services department to add a restaurant in the Market at University Town Center off University Parkway near Honore Avenue.

It comes a few months after the restaurant signed a lease with Edgewood Properties’ Marketplace at Heritage Harbour plaza off State Road 64 East near Interstate 75.

According to building records, Mister O1 is planning to open its restaurant at 5231 University Parkway, Unit 111. The company is renovating an existing building next to Mission BBQ in nearly 2,500 square feet of space.

New pizza restaurant coming to Manatee

The restaurant, which began in Miami, derives its name from United States government’s O-1 visa designation, the Miami Herald previously reported. The visa designation is for “individuals with extraordinary ability or achievement.”

The Miami Herald reported chef Renato Viola founded the restaurant and became an O-1 visa candidate by showing “extraordinary ability by sustained national or international acclaim,” according to the United States Department of Homeland Security.

Mister O1’s pizzas are made with dough fermented between 72 and 96 hours. They are 13-inch pies crafted in a star shape “with a pouch of ricotta cheese in each of the eight points,” the Miami Herald previously reported.

Calzones, 13-inch traditional pizzas, 8-inch pies, salads, desserts and an antipasto and burrata bar are featured at Mister O1.

The Market at UTC location is the restaurant’s second planned shop in Manatee County.

The Benderson Development shopping plaza, where the planned restaurant is located, is home to The Fresh Market, Tijuana Flats, Jersey Girl Bagels, Kohl’s and other retailers.

An opening date has not been announced.
