Atlanta-based bakery expands with a new Bradenton store. Take a look inside
A colorful assortment of sweet and savory baked goods line display cases inside Sweet Hut Bakery & Cafe’s first Florida store.
The shop, which has five locations in Georgia and another in Texas, recently opened in the Orange Blossom shopping plaza at 419 Cortez Road W., Bradenton.
“We wanted to be kind of like a (feeling) at home,” store manager Tonny Yin said about choosing Bradenton. “So we wanted to allow people to come and relax.”
Sweet Hut features Asian pastries, buns, homemade cookies, cakes, sandwiches, burgers, coffee, teas and an assortment of fruit-flavored refresher drinks.
“There’s a lot of savory stuff as well,” Yin said.
Atlanta favorite comes to Bradenton
Sweet Hut was founded in 2012 by Howie Ewe and Amy Wong in Atlanta, according to Plano Magazine.
It’s since become a hit, claiming the No. 1 spot on Trip Advisor’s “Best Bakeries in Atlanta” and frequently appearing on lists of the city’s favorite places for a sweet treat.
In Bradenton, Yin said customer favorites so far include Sweet Hut’s fruit cake and its strawberry cake — a brightly frosted vanilla sponge cake with layers of fresh-cut strawberries and cream.
“We don’t make it too sweet, so people can still enjoy it and not get tired of eating it,” Yin said.
Yin said there is a lot of Malaysian and Chinese influence in the food.
“Mostly … the seasonings that we put into our meats,” he said. “We have mini-baos as well, a fried dough used as a bun. And it’s like we have the toppings, and the meat is seasoned. It’s a bulgogi meat, so it’s marinated in a sauce.”
Sweet Hut plans grand opening party
In addition to the sweet and savory food menu, there’s a drink menu that includes coffee, frappes, milk teas, fruit teas and more.
Yin said his favorite is the jasmine green milk tea.
After picking a drink, customers can also select from an array of toppings that include boba, chia seeds, various flavored jellies and puddings.
To commemorate the new store, a grand opening is planned for Friday and Saturday. Raffles and door prizes, including plushies, are part of the scheduled festivities.
Sweet Hut is open 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. For more information, visit SweetHutBakery.com or call (941) 216-2630.
