‘A stress free zone.’ Inner Compass will add to lineup of breweries in Lakewood Ranch
Plans for a new Bradenton area brewery with tap room and restaurant are working their way through the Manatee County permitting process.
Inner Compass Brewing Company is planned for 1.6-acres of lakeview land at 10316 Technology Terrace. It would be the third brewery at Lakewood Ranch.
“Inner Compass Brewing Company was established in 2014 and opened in February 2016 in Sanford, Fla. My son and his partner opened this location in a small converted gas station. In January 2019 I bought the partner out and, with COVID, decided to take the opportunity to move the location to a much larger location,” Susan R. Carrubba said.
Carrubba and her husband, Rob, are now residents of Lakewood Ranch. Rob Carrubba will manage the tap room and kitchen, and her son, Robert Turner, will serve as brewmaster.
The 7,500-square foot facility will provide craft beer, wine, food, games, entertainment, a beer garden and event room for private parties in a lodge-like setting.
“There will be an outside area that will be pet friendly. We hope to become a destination place where customers can relax and look forward to the next visit,” she said.
Inner Compass Brewing is planned for 120 seats inside and a 2,800-square-foot patio to accommodate plenty of outside seating and activities.
“We want to cater to the golfing community and young families. We just want to provide a relaxing destination, a stress-free zone,” she said.
The family signed a contract for the Lakewood Ranch property in October, and hopes to soon be entering the home stretch for county approvals to start construction.
“We live just three minutes away from the site and Lakewood Ranch is just booming,” Carrubba said.
Naughty Monk is Lakewood Ranch’s first brewery, and thus far the only one that has opened. Naughty Monk opened in 2017 at 2507 Lakewood Ranch Blvd., with an 8,600-square-foot facility serving Belgian-inspired beer, wine and several guest taps of local and national craft brewers.
Developer Schroeder-Manatee Ranch recently announced that Bradenton-based Good Liquid Brewing plans to open a brewery in Lakewood Ranch’s new town center in Sarasota County, Waterside Place. The projected opening date is November.
In 2016, Craft Growlers to Go and Tasting Room opened on Lakewood Ranch Main Street, bringing the world of beer to the heart of the community.
Craft Growlers owner Jeanne Dooley, a 30-year teaching golf professional, offers 45 revolving taps of craft beers and cider in the tasting room at 8141 Lakewood Main St.
In addition to the breweries, Lakewood Ranch is also home to Manatee County’s first distillery.
Loaded Cannon Distillery opened in 2019 in Suite 110 of the Gatewood Corporate Center at 3115 Lakewood Ranch Blvd., offering locally produced rum, gin, vodka, and bourbon.
During the pandemic when hand sanitizer was in short supply, Loaded Cannon converted its production to provide the scarce commodity.
