Baseball | New York Yankees call up former State College of Florida star Nick Goody
Former State College of Florida pitcher Nick Goody didn't last long at the New York Yankees' Triple-A affiliate in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
After just five appearances in 18 days, Goody got the call to the big club Saturday afternoon, joining the Yankees in Minnesota for Saturday night's game against the Twins.
Goody, a 24-year-old right-handed reliever who became LSU's closer after leaving SCF, turned in a 1.35 ERA and recorded two saves with 11 strikeouts in five appearances for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He replaces righty Branden Pinder in the Yankees' bullpen.
Goody recorded a 1.73 ERA with four saves and 59 strikeouts in 29 appearances for Double-A Trenton before getting the call to Triple-A on July 6, his birthday.
After the Yankees selected Goody for the second time in the 2012 draft, he produced a strong first year before suffering an elbow injury that required Tommy John surgery early in the 2013 season.
A little more than 11 months of rehab came before Goody returned with the Tampa Yankees of the Florida State League last year. His 2.35 ERA in 12 games led to a promotion to Double-A Trenton.
