Officers injured in crash with stolen vehicle in St. Petersburg
Two police officers and six other people were injured early Monday in St. Petersburg in a crash involving a stolen vehicle.
According to St. Petersburg police, a stolen vehicle with six people inside crashed into an undercover police truck.
A Tampa police officer and a St. Petersburg police officer suffered non life-threatening injuries in the 12:23 a.m. crash at Central Avenue and 54th Street North.
Officials said the officers were working together as part of an auto theft task force but were not involved in a pursuit.
The driver of the stolen car was speeding at the time of the crash, authorities said. The people in the car, aged 15 to 25 suffered serious injuries, including two that were trauma alerts.
No conditions or names have been released.
Authorities said Central Ave at 54th St. will remain closed for several hours for an investigation.
