Firefighters rescue dog from Florida canal
For at least 20 minutes Monday a golden retriever struggled to stay above the surface of a Southwest Miami-Dade canal.
After people spotted the dog in distress in a canal at Southwest 144th Street and 157th Avenue, they called Miami-Dade Fire Rescue for help.
Crews rushed to the scene and plucked her from the canal.
“The dog was in distress and exhausted,” Miami-Dade Fire Rescue spokeswoman Erika Benitez said in an email. “Rescue crews were able to jump in and retrieve her out of the water just in time.”
The female dog was taken to Miami-Dade Animal Shelter to see if she has a chip.
