Man, 47, dies when hit by semi truck on U.S. 301 in Bradenton
MANATEE -- A pedestrian was hit and killed by a semi truck on U.S. 301 in Bradenton at 5:53 a.m. Friday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Edwin Hipple, 47, Bradenton, was southbound on U.S. 301 walking toward the intersection of U.S. 301 and 38th Avenue East, troopers said. The truck driver saw the pedestrian walking in the dark and tried to swerve, but could not avoid hitting him.
Hipple was pronounced dead on scene. The truck swerved into the median and came to a stop before entering the northbound lanes. The truck driver was not injured.
The left southbound lane of U.S. 301 was blocked for emergency vehicles in that area.
Troopers arrived at 6:09 a.m. and were still processing the scene for more than two hours.
