SARASOTA -- A 28-year-old Venice man was arrested Thursday and charged with 40 counts of possession of child pornography, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.

Daniel Muldowney is currently being held without bond at the Sarasota County jail.

Detectives were investigating internet crimes against children when they discovered three different IP addresses being used to download more than 218 files previously identified as containing child pornography, according to a news release. The IP addresses were tracked to a woman who lives in the 200 block of Lorraine Avenue. Through surveillance, investigators learned she lives there with her son, Daniel Muldowney.

On Thursday, detectives -- armed with a search warrant -- found numerous computers and electronic storage devices in the home. A forensic scan of Daniel Muldowney's laptop revealed a sample of 40 images or videos that were determined to be child pornography, according to a news release.

The sheriff's office said Muldowney was cooperating with the investigations and that he provided a full confession.

The investigation remains ongoing and additional charges are pending.
