Southeast grad killed in Tallahassee shooting

A 19-year-old Southeast High graduate was shot and killed last week in Tallahassee.

Keives Brooks died after a shooting in the 400 block of Putnam Drive around 8:45 p.m. Sept. 19, according to the Tallahassee Police Department. Another 19-year-old and and 18-year-old were also injured in the incident.

According to police, all involved in the shooting knew each other. Some people had been detained at the time, but no arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

“Tallahassee Police Chief Michael J. DeLeo offers his condolences to the family of Mr. Brooks and has them in his thoughts and prayers,” the department said in a press release last week.

According to the Tallahassee Democrat, Brooks’ death marks the 15th homicide in Tallahassee so far in 2017.

Anyone who witnessed the shooting but did not yet talk to police is advised to call the Tallahassee Police Department at 850-891-4200 or Crime Stoppers at 850-574-8477.

Brooks wore No. 4 on the Seminoles basketball team. He graduated in 2016 and was since attending Tallahassee Community College.

A service will be held at Happy Gospel Church, located at 1915 53rd Ave. E., Bradenton, at 11 a.m. Saturday.
