A 41-year-old naked man believed to have been armed with a Glock firearm was subdued with the help of a Taser after a tense incident first reported at 7:07 p.m. Friday, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies arrived to find suspect James W. Braine in the 10000 block of Cortez Road West naked, armed with a gun and threatening to shoot people.
A deputy reportedly saw Braine run westbound into the car lot and conceal himself behind a parked van, which was confirmed by two victims, according to the report.
Braine put shorts back on and was ordered out into an open area at gunpoint. The suspect was ordered to his knees but kept yelling for the deputy to shoot him.
Braine moved his hands down by his waist and pockets multiple times despite commands to keep his hands up. Fearing Braine was still armed, the deputy deployed a Taser striking the suspect in the back. Braine fell to the ground and got back up after the five-second cycle. Two more cycles were administered to little effect.
A second deputy helped place Braine in handcuffs. EMS transported Braine to the hospital.
A Glock firearm with an extended magazine was reportedly found a short distance away from Braine.
Braine was charged with two counts aggravated assault with a firearm, exposure of sexual organs and resisting arrest.
