Manatee commissioners OK pay raise, new contract for administrator Hunzeker

MANATEE -- The Manatee County Commission voted 5-2 Tuesday in favor of a new five-year contract for County Administrator Ed Hunzeker.

Voting in favor were commissioners Larry Bustle, John Chappie, Carol Whitmore, Betsy Benac and Vanessa Baugh. Voting against were Commissioners Robin DiSabatino and Michael Gallen.

Discussion about the contract went on for almost two hours.

The contract provides a pay raise of $34,720.20 annually to Hunzeker, to $203,845 annually. In return, he will forfeit a $337,411.83 payout for which he is eligible under a state retirement program.
