Man bitten by shark off Anna Maria Island

A man vacationing on Anna Maria Island was bitten by a shark while he was wade fishing Sunday at Bean Point with three other adults and three children, the sheriff's office reports.

The victim had finished fishing at around 1:12 p.m. and dumped his bait bucket into the water, a report said.

While standing in waist deep water, a shark bit him on the back of his left thigh. The victim and family waved down a passing boater who took the victim to the Rod and Reel pier. The victim was transported to Blake hospital with a small flap type wound and scratches on his leg, the report said.
