Car swallowed by sinkhole in shopping center

A car was swallowed by a sinkhole at an Ocala shopping complex on Saturday, according to the Ocala Fire Department.

At about 6:30 p.m. Saturday, the sinkhole opened in the parking lot the Gaitway Plaza, 2701 SW College Road, near the Checkers restaurant, according to Ocala Fire Rescue’s Facebook page.

State Road 200 between S.W. 27th Avenue and S.W. 26th Street was briefly closed as a result. Nearby Ocala Fire Rescue had also responded to the Shady Oaks Plaza reports of flooded vehicles.

There were no injuries reported.
