Semi trailer fire on Interstate 75 in Ellenton damages several vehicles
A semi trailer carrying six vehicles on Interstate 75 in Ellenton caught fire Monday morning due to a mechanical failure, destroying several of the vehicles onboard and the trailer, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The semi was southbound on the Jeff D. Young Bridge at 5:09 a.m. when the right rear tires on the trailer caught fire due to a mechanical failure, according to a release.
The mechanical failure was not specified in the report and the 40-year-old driver of the semi is not being cited.
Smoke remained around the crash site for a few hours, troopers said. The incident blocked lanes of southbound I-75 for a few hours.
No one was injured due to the fire.
