ODA’s Krug a winner in USTA doubles

Out-of-Door Academy student Ava Krug of Lakewood Ranch won the title Saturday in the 14 and Under division of the USTA National Doubles Championships.

Krug, who is 12 but played with the older competitors, partnered with sixth-grader Liv Hovde of McKinney, Texas, to defeat two other area players, Anna Babayan and Ari Siegal of Sarasota.

Krug is ranked fourth in the nation in her age group. Hovde is ranked No. 2.

Krug’s brothers, Connor and Jake, both age 14, competed in 16 and Under division and advanced to the quarterfinals.
