Numbers Game | Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist faster than American Pharoah
So many digits to dissect after a busy weekend saw area softball and track teams wrap up their season at the state championship levels, while the Tampa Bay Lightning inched closer to a Stanley Cup trophy and the annual Kentucky Derby became Chalk City, with favored Nyquist winning the race.
Plus more in this week's Numbers Game, so let's dive right in:

Earned run average this season for Bayshore's Miriam Schmoll, who pitched the Bruins to the brink of history with the program's first state championship game appearance last Saturday. Six errors contributed to Bayshore's 9-2 loss in the Class 5A title game against Coral Springs Charter.
Despite the setback, Schmoll racked up 10 strikeouts to finish with 206 strikeouts in 120 innings pitched this season.
The junior rebounded from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her sophomore season to allow just three earned runs for the year before Coral Springs Charter cracked her for four in the title game.
Meanwhile, Braden River exited the Class 7A Final Four in the semifinal round at Historic Dodgertown in Vero Beach. Starting pitcher Ali Yawn was snake-bitten like Schmoll, giving up just one earned run as four Pirate errors enabled Gainesville to snag a 4-0 victory.
The Pirates are losing three seniors to Division I college softball next season, while two college-bound players leave Bayshore.

Years it took a Manatee County track program to capture a state team title after Lakewood Ranch's girls team clinched the Class 4A state title through Sophia Falco's fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with two events remaining Saturday. The Mustangs, ultimately, finished with 68 points -- six better than runner-up Miami Southridge -- to become the first county program to win a track team state title since Palmetto's girls team accomplished the feat in 1990 with the 2A championship. The last boys team to win a state track team title was Manatee, which polished off a third consecutive win in 1957.

The last year the Chicago Cubs started as hot as they did entering Monday night's action was more than 100 years ago. The Cubbies won 24 of their first 30 games in 1907 en route to a World Series title over the Detroit Tigers. The Cubs are off to the same start this season, winning seven in a row prior to Monday. Meanwhile, their South Side rivals, the White Sox, became the first American League team this season to reach 20 wins late last week.

Time differential between Nyquist's winning Kentucky Derby time compared with last year's winner, American Pharoah, who captured the Triple Crown for the first time in 37 years and later added the Breeder's Cup title. Nyquist's time was just a bit faster in Saturday's first leg of the Triple Crown, and was the fastest for a Derby winner since Funny Cide in 2003. Nyquist, who is 8-0 now, ran the Derby in 2:01.31, while American Pharoah clocked in at 2:03.02 in 2015. The all-time record, though, belongs to Secretariat at 1:59.40 in 1973.

Estimated dollars, in millions, that Middlesbrough earned for automatic promotion to the English Premier League after a 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend. Both clubs were tied with 88 points entering the winner-take-all promotion battle to the EPL. But 'Boro had the better goal differential, which saw it escape England's Championship Division for advancement into next season's Premier League for the first time in seven seasons. Consequently, the club will receive a huge monetary boost for the promotion thanks, largely, to the television rights deal each of the 20 EPL clubs receives.
