SCF names tennis courts

State College of Florida's tennis courts have a new name. Five of the six courts were named after benefactors by the SCF Foundation in a recent court dedication ceremony.

The benefactors are Betsy Nagelson McCormack, the tennis program's executive coach who launched the program in 2010, Hall of Fame tennis coach Nick Bollettieri, Mary and Tom James and Penelope "Nip" Anderson McBride.

The James' are philanthropists who have endowed faculty chairs and have funded several charities through their own foundation. Tom is on the board of the International Tennis Hall of Fame as well as being president of the Salvador Dali Museum Board of Trustees.

McBride passed away in 1993, 10 years after induction into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame for her stellar tennis playing career. Friends of McBride began raising funds to reserve a court in her honor once the tennis program was established in 2010.

One court, though, has not been named. For more information about a naming opportunity, contact the SCF Foundation at 752-5390 or visit scffoundation.net.
