If you’ve been wondering where schools of redfish have been, you aren’t alone. When Capt. Nate Weissman said he found them on his social media channels, the spot seekers came begging.

“You know how many people have messaged me, asking where I’ve been catching them?” Weissman said.

“Right now, I’m catching the same fish, at the same time, in the same spot as last year.”

While most redfish may have a very cookie cutter-ish appearance apart from their spots, Weissman can verify he’s catching the same fish as last year. Earlier this week, one redfish in particular stood out to him.

Last year at the same spot, one that looked lucky to be alive really caught his attention. “One of the redfish had prop scars. They were very symmetrical in spacing. It was obvious that it wasn’t the normal scars you would see from a dolphin or a shark. It was 26 inches, but it had survived such crazy injuries we had to let it go back, you don’t kill a fish like that.”

Such a unique fish stuck in Weissman’s mind and warranted a picture.

Fast forward nearly 12 months, and the same fish was caught at the same spot, but this time it was nearly 3 inches bigger.

“We measured it again, it was 29 inches.”

Weissman’s honey hole has produced more redfish than most as the seemingly elusive drum have returned to his yearly spot. “It was nonstop for a father and son earlier this week. I would throw out a rod, go to get the second one out, and before it was out the first would have a fish on it. We did that for seven doubleheaders until they turned off like a light switch.”

While the spot will remain a mystery, he was willing to share the bait of choice. “They’ve been biting pinfish really good,” Weissman added.
